Community Calendar

Combining craft, community and creativity, this six-week introductory course investigates the techniques, materials, and themes common in wheel-thrown ceramics. Through hands-on guidance, students will be encouraged to develop the foundational skills surrounding wheel thrown forms such as making handles, trimming pots, decorating the surfaces, and applying glaze. Students will leave class with a foundational knowledge of clay and various ceramic processes. This six‑week class is ideal for anyone eager to learn the basics of wheel throwing or to grow their confidence alongside a supportive group of fellow artists.

Using principles learned from the Fundamentals, Figure/Head, and Painting classes, we’ll apply our knowledge and skills to Great Master artworks. We’ll learn watercolor basics (wet on wet,wet on dry, color mixing). Each week we’ll look at various artists such as Rubens, Rembrandt, Winslow Homer and more. From each, we’ll cover the human figure, landscapes, and abstracts.

All levels welcome!

Discover the fun and challenge of Mah Jongg, a centuries-old Chinese
tile game that’s gaining popularity across the
U.S.! This beginner-friendly course introduces
the game’s fascinating history and teaches official rules and strategies based on the National
Mah Jongg League standards.
Participants will learn through a mix of lecture,
discussion, and guided game play, all led by
experienced instructors from the Springdale
Senior Center. They will cover everything from
tile recognition and rules to strategy and scoring, with step-by-step guidance designed for
newcomers. Enjoy a supportive, social setting
where you can ask questions, get hands-on
help, and build your skills with fellow learners.
It’s fun, social, and great for brain health. Come

highlights of his practice, from Prairie houses
to Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum,
alongside lesser-known projects like affordable
housing and city planning. We’ll examine how
Wright’s work reflected cultural shifts in technology, science, and politics, offering a deeper
understanding of his lasting influence on architecture and modern design.
