Community Spotlight: Women's Shelter Marks 30 Years

download.png

The Northwest Arkansas Women's Shelter has been a haven for victims of abuse and violence for 30 years. The shelter not only provides resources for victims but also educates people about the cycle of violence, its larger implications and how to notice signs of domestic abuse through outreach programs.

According to the shelter, one in 3 women and one in four men are victims of abuse.

"We can talk about domestic violence in theory all day long, but until you really understand the tangible people that are affected it doesn't really hit home," says Amber Lacewell, Director of Community Engagement and Education.

Ahead of the shelter's 30th anniversary, Lacewell joins Pete Hartman in the Nancy Blair Operations studio to talk about how the organization is working to prevent domestic violence in Northwest Arkansas.
