Of Note for Wed., Mar. 23, 2016: When Indie Rock Collides with Classical

The intersection of classical music with independent rock is a fascinating place celebrated in a recent release from Chicago chamber ensemble Eighth Blackbird, a group that describes itself as combining "the finesse of a string quartet, the energy of a rock band and the audacity of a storefront theater company." Bryce Dessner, better known as a member of the rock group The National, is featured in a seven-movement piece titled "Murder Ballades." Hear it in its entirety on Wednesday's program.
