KUAF Arts Beat: Nadi Cinema Shines Spotlight on Middle East

Nadi Cinema, the University of Arkansas Middle East Film Club, screens a wide array of films from across the Middle East. These films are selected by Joel Gordon, a professor and historian of modern Egypt and the Middle East.

It’s something you can’t find consistently anywhere else in Northwest Arkansas, said Kaveh Bassiri, a PhD candidate in comparative literature who teaches Iranian film and literature on campus.

Up next on March 29 is Low Heights, an Iranian film about a man desperate to give his family a new start but is caught up in a plane hijack.

Screenings are held at 7 p.m. in Hembree Auditorium about once a month. They are free and open to the public.

Come see movies the way they were filmed to be screened: “in a dark theater with friends and strangers,” Gordon said.
