Arkansas Files FEMA Application to Fund Additional Unemployment Benefits

Following several consecutive days of reduced new COVID-19 cases and a reduced number of tests, both totals climbed in the last 24-hour monitoring period. Governor Asa Hutchinson announced there were 729 positive diagnoses out of just more than 6,000 tests. The state also reported 12 additional deaths, bringing that total to 631. Hospitalizations also increase by seven. Ten counties reported at least 20 new cases. Pulaski County had 65, Sebastian County had 52, Washington County had 32 and Benton County had 29. As many Arkansans remain without work because of the economic fallout from the pandemic, Hutchinson said the state is filing an application with FEMA to fund additional unemployment benefits of $300 a week for qualifying residents, but any payments are at least a few weeks away. The governor also said Alcoholic Beverage Control inspections show most Arkansas businesses are following mandates and guidelines set by the state. To watch the governor's full briefing, click here.
