As Arkansans head into Labor Day weekend, the state is reporting new highs for both new COVID-19 cases with 1,094 and COVID-19 tests with more than 11,200. The Arkansas Department of Health also reported a dozen additional deaths from the virus, bringing that total to 873. Washington County once again had the most new cases with 215 and Governor Asa Hutchinson said 82 percent of those new cases were among people between the ages of 18 and 24. Hutchinson, who delivered his briefing from Searcy, said he spoke with University of Arkansas Chancellor Joe Steinmetz about the growing number of cases among the student population at the school. While classes are not suspended, on-campus events are suspended until Sept. 18. The City of Fayetteville also announced its planning to increase the presence of police officers and fire marshals in the city's entertainment district this week to enforce directives meant to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
