Last Thursday, July 18, the Baptist Health Fort Smith Parking Lot was filled with flashing lights and people in uniforms. But this wasn’t an emergency—it was an educational experience. Ozarks at Large’s Jack Travis was on the scene.

On today's show, UAMS and Baptist Health Fort Smith give teenagers hands-on experience in the medical world. Also, chatting with an author about a real-life Springdale resident who served as inspiration for their novel about running away to join the circus. Plus, the Listening Lab visits the Girl Power Rock Camp.

Late last year, we heard from Shawn Hunter, the leader behind the Diana Project– an organization dedicated to raising awareness of Arkansas’ State Butterfly, the Diana Fritillary. Last week, Hunter caught up with Ozarks at Large’s Jack Travis at the Carver Center for Public Radio to talk about Pollinator Month– which is coming up in June. Hunter says a lot has happened for the Diana Project in 2024, including an exciting collaboration with the Nature Conservancy.

Pete speaks with Ellie Hoyt, director of development at SOAR Afterschool, about their upcoming 'NWA Amazing Shake' event. They are looking for members of the community to serve as judges.

Nate Walls is the owner of Second Hand Smoke barbecue and catering. He also runs a non-profit, Second Helping NWA. Later this month, Second Helping NWA will coordinate their Trails of Love event with Woodstone Pizza to collect toys, coats, and more for families in northwest Arkansas. Walls spoke with Ozarks at Large Kyle Kellams in the Anthony and Susan Hui News Studio to talk about these events.
