Haylee Shul started writing after a second-grade teacher put a little award medal on a story she had written and decided, "Alright, that's what I'm going to do."
Haylee's poem, "Raising the Dead," carefully and tenderly moves through grief and loss. Haylee says, "Poetry... lingers, zooms in on a moment...It says, 'here pay attention to this, this is really important."
