From the Himalayas to the Ozarks: A World Premiere Composition's Journey

American composer Andrea Clearfield was inspired by the folk song traditions of the Himalayas when she ventured into field research. When the University of Arkansas New Music Ensemble commissioned her to write a piece with the theme of "music as story," her experiences documenting the folk sounds in a remote Tibetan village provided the perfect catalyst.

The result is "RabsongShar (The Eastern Room of the Palace)," which makes its world premiere April 21 at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center in a performancefrom the Arkansas New Music Ensemble. Find out more in my conversation with the composer ahead of the performance.
