Of Note for Sun., Sept. 11, 2016: Smetana's Symphonic Expression of Bohemia

"Two springs gush forth in the shade of the Bohemian forest, the one warm and swift flowing, the other cool and tranquil." Bedrich Smetana describes his homeland in "The Moldau." Though many symphonies have 4 movements, Smetana instead presents 6 tone-poems. Each movement in the cycle seeks to paint a picture of a piece of his beloved country. Hear a recording of Rafael Kublik conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Smetana's Ma Vlast ("My Country") and other full symphonic works. Katy Henriksen keeps the #SundaySymphony tradition alive this Sunday from 8 to 10.
