The UARK Jazz Festival is continuing through part of next week. Last night, Artist-in-Residence Steve Wilson performed with the UofA jazz faculty at the Music Depot in downtown Rogers. Tomorrow night, Wilson is performing with the NWACC All-Stars, UofA faculty and students at Thaden School as part of the UofA College Concert.

The University of Arkansas’ Master of Music in Black Sacred Music, a unique three-year, summer-only program, will conclude its second summer with a concert on Aug. 1 at The Meteor in Fayetteville. Geoffrey Allen Murdock and Jake Hertzog discussed the event and the Arkansas Center for Black Music at the Carver Center for Public Radio.

Silkroad Ensemble is a musical collective dedicated to bringing together musicians. The latest version of Silkroad’s “Train Station Trio” will perform in Fayetteville this week. The musicians will also participate in the “TEACH M.E.” Music Education Conference. Daniel Abrahams, assistant professor of music education, came to the Anthony and Susan Hui News Studio to talk with Ozarks at Large's Kyle Kellams about the conference. They were joined on Zoom by Kaoru Wantabe, a flutist and percussionist, and Morgan Beckford, the director of Silkroad Connect.

Jake Hertzog and Susumu Watanabe are collaborating with nearly two dozen other area musicians for the premier performance of the Ozark Jazz Philharmonic on Tuesday night. Not only is the ensemble new but so is the work the musicians will be performing, Hertzog’s “Anthropesia: A Concerto for Jazz Guitar and Jazz Philharmonic.” Both men came to the Anthony and Susan Hui News Studio recently to talk about the music and the ensemble.

Legendary children's musician Ella Jenkins turns 100 this year, and the University of Arkansas Department of Music is throwing some events to celebrate her enduring legacy. Events include a sing-a-long at the Fayetteville Public Library and a guest lecture on the Old Main Lawn. Ozarks at Large's Kyle Kellams sat down with lecturers and organizers to learn more.
