Arkansas State University-Jonesboro Chancellor Dr. Kelly Damphousse will start the new year serving on the governing board of the National Collegiate Athletics Association.
A-State announced on Thursday that Damphousse will serve on the NCAA Board of Governors starting in January 2022. Damphousse will represent Division I on the board and he will serve until August 15, 2025.
“This is an important and well-deserved appointment for Kelly,” said Arkansas State University System President Dr. Chuck Welch in a statement. “His being at the forefront of major issues facing higher education will serve Arkansas State University and the ASU System well. I’m proud of his leadership and appreciate the NCAA board for recognizing and using his broad experience in collegiate athletics and administration.”
Damphousse will be among 12 campus leaders from the division to serve on the 20 member board. He is the current present of the Sun Belt Conference and is the first chancellor in A-State history to be selected to the Board.
“Chancellor Damphousse is a terrific addition to the NCAA Board of Governors,” Conference League Commissioner Keith Gill said. “His student-centered and calm approach will be very helpful as the NCAA works to determine the best path forward. As president of the Sun Belt he has led our conference through some very important issues and those skills will be useful for the NCAA. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Damphousse for his commitment to and leadership of the Sun Belt and the NCAA.”
Prior to coming to A-State, Damphousse served as the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative at the University of Oklahoma.
