The Martyrdom & The Resurrection: A Reading of Two Short Plays by Medieval Playwright Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim

The Martyrdom & The Resurrection: A Reading of Two Short Plays by Medieval Playwright Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim

Join us for a free public reading of two short plays by Medieval playwright Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim. MFA actors from the University of Arkansas will perform in these plays, which are a brand-new translation by Lizzie Fox, a translator in the Creative Writing MFA. Molly Clifford, a New York-based director, will direct.

Hrotsvitha (c. 935-1000 C.E.) is the first-known female playwright in the Western tradition. She lived in modern-day Germany and served as a nun in the convent of Gandersheim. Her work is evocative, strange, and extremely funny.
