Guidance on How to Prepare in Arkansas for the End of the COVID-19 National and Public Health Emergencies

In place since early 2020, two national COVID-19 emergency declarations are now scheduled to end this coming May. Dr. Joe Thompson, President and CEO of Arkansas Center for Health Improvement in Little Rock — who’s provided timely and reliable guidance to the public throughout the pandemic — offers suggestions on how to prepare for this major change.

Arkansas has the highest maternal mortality rate in the nation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Also, half of the state is classified as a "maternity care desert," in a report from March of Dimes.
