State officials are rolling out a new outdoor education initiative. Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced yesterday the creation of the Arkansas Outdoor Education Pilot Program. Sanders said the goal is to prepare students to enter careers in the outdoor economy immediately after high school.

Arkansas Education Secretary Jacob Oliva said all school districts are able to apply to the program, though only 30 will be selected for the program’s first year. The state will work with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to provide curriculum and professional development throughout the first year of the program. He said that if successful, the program will expand to other school districts.
