This course involves reading and discussing a novel -- All Eyes on the Sky. -- about life and death in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. The author of the novel, Dr. Samuel Totten, Professor Emeritus, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, based the story on his experiences and observations in the war-torn Nuba Mountains.
The class will be comprised of a short lecture on the ongoing crisis in Sudan, a group discussion of the novel, including commentary about why and how Totten wrote it, along with personal stories of his time in the Nuba Mountains during which he illegally crossed into Sudan in order to truck food to those in most desperate need.

Marilyn Heifner will lead class members as they explore Arkansas and the Ozarks through four well-written books by regional authors. Book Selections: March 6 - Brooks Blevins, Up South in the Ozarks; April 3 - Eli Cranor, Ozark Dogs; May 1 - Jerry Hogan, Forgotten Fayetteville; and June 5 - Molly Giles, The Home for Unwed Husbands.
Participants are responsible for obtaining their own copy of the books each month, and to have read the selection in time for a class discussion. (Recommended...Pearl’s Books will give 20% off if you mention OLLI Book Club).

There is a solution for improving the body changes that come with aging. Healthy aging requires one to systematically stretch and condition muscles that will protect the aging joints.
Vicky Willis, a certified Yoga instructor and OLLI’s Yoga guru, will lead participants in the slow, exact movements practiced in Yoga that will enhance strength, eliminate joint stiffness, restore flexibility and range of motion, improve agility, and improve balance. These key areas - strength, flexibility, agility and balance - are the foundations of healthy living and living without the morning shuffle of pain and stiffness.
This program introduces the history of drones and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and includes a full demonstration of their uses. University of Arkansas professors, Jason Tullis and Dr. Brad Peters, will present information on personal remote sensing, airspace regulations, geographic or geospatial data, drone platforms and sensors, photogrammetric concepts, cyberinfrastructure, air mobility initiatives in Northwest Arkansas, and safety in flight operations. A field component will include introductory preflight and flight, demonstration of automated survey and autonomous scanning of a 3D structure. Participants will have the opportunity to fly a small UAS (under 55 lbs) with support from subject matter experts at the U of A.
*Note: The class portion (session 1) will be held at the OLLI office building while the demonstration session will be held at Agri Park.For the second session, participants are asked to wear sturdy shoes and to bring a lawn chair.
