In July, the Arkansas Department of Health reported a rise in Breakthrough infections of COVID-19 - or positive cases of the virus in fully immunized people. Robert Hopkins, chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at UAMS, says community spread of the delta variant along with low vaccination ratesin Arkansas are contributing to these cases. However, he says, it is unlikely for vaccinated people to become severely ill if they do contract COVID-19.
