This course continues our journey into how music becomes the emotional engine of film. This is not film school—it is a celebration for film lovers who want to experience how music shapes story, character, and unforgettable moments. We will explore how instrumental scores and songs with lyrics work together to drive narrative, define identity, and capture cultural shifts. We will focus on films where songs take center stage, from iconic franchise themes to pop- and rock-driven storytelling. Spanning genres and eras, we will see how composers, songwriters, and performers expanded the language of film music. (Class will not meet 10/28)

A 6-week class series led by Janira Rios on handbuilding with clay.
In this six-week course, students will be introduced to the foundations of handbuilt ceramics through gentle, accessible explorations of pinch, coil, and slab techniques. Designed with beginners in mind, this class emphasizes curiosity, experimentation, and mindful making in a supportive studio environment where process matters as much as product.
Participants will receive up to 25 pounds of clay, along with access to studio glazes, allowing them to develop and complete a collection of fired works to take home at the end of the course.
Each session will include clear demonstrations, reflective discussions, and generous hands on studio time. Students will be guided through thoughtfully planned exercises that build confidence and foundational skills while also encouraging creative planning, sketching, and personal exploration in clay. Space will be made for individual projects that reflect each student’s interests, ideas, and evolving style.
By the end of the course, students will have a deeper understanding of basic handbuilding methods, material awareness, and finishing techniques, along with a meaningful body of functional and/or sculptural pieces that reflect their creative journey in clay.
Classes meet from 6-8PM on Thursdays for 6 weeks:

Raine's Bio: Raine Ransom was used to working in 3D spaces long before they started pottery. Initially a 3D artist for video games, Raine loved interacting with any object they could get their hands on to dissect and recreate its appeal. Moving from San Francisco, CA, they decided to pick up working with clay to help their work online but ended up falling in love with the challenge of the craft. They started throwing on the wheel in 2023 and since then they've been diligently honing their skills in order to make beautiful and unique pottery using Wild Clay they personally harvested and processed. Now, they teach ceramics to other students at multiple studios such as the Community Creative Center, Mount Sequoyah, and Imagine Studios. Raine is a current Mount Sequoyah Clay Studio member and has been excited to join the community.

This course examines royal succession through acclaimed British films that explore power not as ceremony, but as moral and political crisis. We will trace the monarchy’s evolution from personal rule to institutional authority, beginning with the Plantagenet struggles in Becket (1964) and The Lion in Winter (1968). We will then examine the moral costs of king ship and the performance of national leadership through two Shakespeare adaptations: Chimes at Midnight (1965) and Henry V (1989). The course will conclude with the Tudor rupture: A Man for All Seasons (1966) and the consolidation of legitimacy in Elizabeth (1998).

Route 66 is as much an idea as it is a place. Since its creation in 1926, America’s most famous highway has evolved from a 2,400-mile transportation corridor into a powerful symbol of nostalgia, travel, and the American road. Today, it functions as a kind of pilgrimage route, marked by neon signs, roadside attractions, and preserved motels, cafés, and gas stations. In this course, we will explore the history, cultural meaning, and enduring appeal of Route 66. Together, we will examine its origins, rise and decline, late-20th century revival, the role of nostalgia and car culture, preservation efforts, and the possible future of this iconic highway
