The Machine Behind the Art: Inside JR’s Printing Press is one of JR’s most extensive immersive and experiential works to date. After taking portraits in one of three individual photo booths, visitors enter the interior of an oversized, whirring printing press – turning their image into a tangible work of art while offering a glimpse into the creative process of JR. After the experience, visitors leave with their own, one-of-a-kind print.

This course focuses on recent events in Russia and the post-Soviet space, many of which stem from enduring ethnic tensions. The Russian Federation is home to 180 nationalities, many of which have long been in conflict. We will examine how the Russian state—under the Tsars, Soviets, and President Vladimir Putin—has sought to impose uniformity, often diminishing ethnic groups. Through a historical lens, we will explore the struggles of these groups, from peaceful movements like the Circassian movement to violent resistance like Chechnya. Contemporary Russian culture, including music, cinema, cuisine, and humor, will also be discussed to illuminate current events.

This course begins by unraveling the mysteries of the brain. We will explore how to navigate the complex and fragmented healthcare system and discuss strategies for advocating for personalized care. In addition to simplifying common neurological conditions—such as headaches, dizziness, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and memory loss—we will examine testing and imaging of the nervous system. The course will also focus on illness prevention through healthy lifestyles and provide an intimate discussion of end-of-life issues.

"This exhibition features the work of four women who have found joy and love through creating their work and sharing it with others. Their styles and mediums vary but their ""acts of love"" are palpable and engage the senses through painting, quilted wall hangings, weaving and mixed media metal art.  

Dawn Ward works in a variety of media including digital photography, printmaking, sculpture and fiber art. Her current work is solely based on the use of recycled, upcycled and reused materials from found objects, vintage jewelry, fabric scraps, used clothing and yarn. She has taught studio classes and workshops for over 26 years and exhibits her work in local and national venues.

Barbara Kennedy been creating art in one form or another her entire life. From oil and acrylic painting, to beading and fiber art, to playing keyboards in an international acclaimed reggae band. She lives a creative life that touches everything she puts her mind and heart into. Designated legally blind from macular degeneration in 2020, she faced many challenges, including how to continue her creative practice in painting. In 2022, Barbara began to teach herself tapestry weaving. She continues to learn new techniques, using torn fabric, beads, sticks and yarns, focusing on color, texture and design.

Ann Naumann has lived in Eureka Springs for over 40 years, raising 3 children while working in various aspects of the culinary field. She has expressed her creativity through bead work and more recently working with fabric, creating fabric art wall hangings using all kinds of different cloth. She is always on the lookout for interesting textiles and thread, always at risk of becoming a fabricaholic.

Cheryl Rutledge was born and raised in Fort Smith, proud to be a native of the Natural State. After receiving an education degree, she eventually became a resident of Eureka Springs in 1982. After retiring as an educator in 2014, she began pursuing her  interest in the arts. She has attended various classes at the Eureka Springs School of the Arts where she learned to weld and forge to create sculptures from metal and various found objects. Her first significant sculpture, “As Long As Grass Grows or Water Runs…”, is a tribute to honor the indigenous people of the Eureka Springs area. Her works have been on display at museums and can be found locally at the ESSA campus as well as the Museum of Eureka Springs Art. She enjoys being a part of the creative process as each piece evolves into a work of art. She is now beginning to explore and expand her creativeness in public venues."

Some topics don’t fit neatly into OLLI science classes—too big, too small, too little, too much, too off-topic—and often end up on the proverbial cutting room floor. In this course, these intriguing bits and ends are gathered up and presented like a charcuterie board of tasty science snacks. This will be a six-week romp through just about anything one might imagine including a little bit of color theory, a morsel of genetic testing science, a dash of airplane physics, some lightning theory, a mouse that turns scorpion venom into a painkiller, current scientific thoughts on origins of life, and a lot of time to explore topics of interest to you. Bring your questions and we will explore some of the exciting nooks and crannies of science together

Fayetteville Public Library Foundation to Host Mah Jongg Fundraiser: "Bamboo and Books"

FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS — The Fayetteville Public Library Foundation invites the community to Bamboo and Books, a special Mah Jongg fundraiser on Thursday, September 25 from 4:30-7:30 pm at the Fayetteville Public Library. This event offers an afternoon of friendly competition, treats, and community spirit, all to benefit the vital programs and resources of the Fayetteville Public Library.

Attendees will enjoy a lively atmosphere filled with the distinctive clatter of Mah Jongg tiles, opportunities for players of all levels, and a chance to connect with fellow community members. The event will feature light refreshments, raffle prizes, and a welcoming environment for all.

Every tile played and every ticket purchased directly supports the library's mission to inspire learning, creativity, and connection. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy a classic game while making a tangible difference in our community. The funds raised will help the library continue to offer essential resources, from literacy programs to technology access, that serve thousands of residents each year.

Immerse Yourself in the Serenity of Nature Discover the profound benefits of Shinrin-Yoku or Forest Bathing while exploring the tranquil grounds of Mount Sequoyah.

Forest Bathing is a Japanese practice which encourages you to open yourself to the calm and healing benefits of nature and the forest. Your Guide, Emmie Brenzel will walk you gently through invitations connecting you with the land and the natural world around you. Participants will be invited to move slowly, listen deeply, awaken their senses, and activate their imaginations. These reflective activities foster relaxation, self-awareness, and healing of the body and mind. Indoor and outdoor options will be available to accommodate weather and mobility issues. The practice closes with a ceremonial tea celebration. Walks will be limited to fourteen participants.

How to Prepare for a Forest Bathing Adventure

1. Dress comfortably for the weather keeping in mind that temperatures are cooler when seated, moving slowing, or closer to sundown.

2. Pack a portable chair for seating if you prefer not to get up and down off the ground.

3. Bring a water bottle for hydration if desired.

4. Please bring your sense of wonder and curiosity to the mountaintop.

Join us for the Levitt AMP Fort Smith Music Series featuring The Mexican Standoff on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7:15 PM (opening act at 6:00 PM) at Harry E. Kelley River Park. An all-female, Mexican-American band known for their gritty rock and Tex-Mex energy, this band will kick off our fall series in style!

The Levitt AMP Fort Smith Music Series, presented by Main Street Fort Smith and the Levitt Foundation, is free, family-friendly, and pet-friendly. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy live music under the stars on the Arkansas River.
