KUAF Arts Beat: A Live Psychological Thriller Just in Time for Halloween

Courtesy ArkansasStaged

If you're looking for a live psychological thriller to get into the Halloween spirit, ArkansasStaged has you covered with a production of Aaron Mark's "Squeamish," a one-woman play about Sharon, a a recovering alcoholic therapist from New York City who ends up at a funeral in her Texas panhandle hometown. This production of "Squeamish," at 21c Museum Hotel in Bentonville, is the first outside of the initial New York City run.

"I feel like it's a story that touches on big issues: anxiety, addiction, family dynamics, the struggle of figuring out who you are without judgement on who that person is," explains Debra Capps, who plays Sharon in this ArkansasStaged rendering. "At the same time there's a spooky, darker element to all of it. It's incredibly good writing."

Capps, along with director Jason Shipman, both revel in the fact that this thriller, despite its spookiness, is entirely devoid of gore. And each discuss "delicious" moments of the two hour play for an ArtsBeat investigation.

Heightening the mood are original compositions from Fort Smith composer Amos Cochran for a collaboration with Trillium Salon Series, as well as food and drink pairings from Chef Michael McClure of The Hive.
