Of Note for Wed., June 1, 2016: Emotion, Clarity & Conviction

“My main concern is the music should convey the various emotions in it with clarity and conviction,” said German-born American composer Ursula Mamlok.

Volume 5 is the last group of works to have been released before Mamlok passed away earlier this year, with compositions spanning 1942 to 2015. This collection represents the style and form Mamlok discovered during the early 1960s, contrasted with the influence of her aesthetic role model Johannes Brahms.  Mamlok conveys melodies with a sense of economy, resulting in pieces that are highly expressive and, at the same time, tightly controlled.
