As the world watched the best athletes on the planet at a voracious rate during the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, learn what it is like to cover those competitors from the proverbial press box. What research do sports reporters need to have at the ready to understand the psychology and business of the best teams in the NFL, MLB, or NHL? Where do journalists get it right or wrong when writing or editing features in a rapidly changing gender dynamic of college athletics as Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Women’s Basketball team proved? How do we understand from outside the ropes the familial and financial dynamics at play when talking about controversies like the PGA vs. LIV saga which is lighting the world of golf on fire?
Answer these questions and more with Professor Annie Krall, a sports and news broadcaster. This course is for those who are regularly glued to their sports channels and those whom simply like knowing who to root for during the big games. Yes, in the world of heroes and villains, there is always more at play on and off the court.

Since the late 1990s, KAWS has been creating a cast of iconic characters steeped in the American zeitgeist that populate his work. Each with their own distinct personality pulled in part from their creator, these characters have been a constant throughline in the artist’s career. The exhibition takes its title and thematic jumping-off point from the sculpture titled FAMILY (2021), which brings together four of KAWS’ characters posed in the style of a family portrait. As witnessed throughout the show, the relationships between the figures can be complex, familiar, and astonishingly heartfelt entryways into human emotions.

Artist Trading Cards are one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork, the size of baseball cards, that get made and then traded with other artists. Trading cards are never sold. This workshop will be a fun introduction to working with mixed media and various ways to design and embellish your cards. The only official rules for ATCs is the size: 2.5" x3.5" and that the cards are traded and never sold. At the end of the workshop, you will have the opportunity to trade any or all the cards you made.
How it all began....In 1997, M. Vanci Stirnemann, a Swiss artist, created 1200 cards by hand as part of an exhibit. On the last day, he invited others to create their own cards and trade with him during the closing reception. The movement took off, and today, there are ATC swaps in almost every major city around the world. There are also many online swaps.
No art experience necessary. Project details will be emailed upon registration. This workshop has limited enrollment so early enrollment is recommended.
