Event Description

Mt. Sequoyah, a thriving 400 acre haven was established in 1922 as a multi-state summer and spiritual re-treat via the Methodist Episcopal Church for its south jurisdiction. Originally called East Mountain it was renamed Mount Sequoyah in honor of Cherokee Chief Sequoyah. The retreat opened its doors for the first time during the summer of 1923. The unique history, including the development, spiritual focus, cultural aspect, important events and the impact it had on the Northwest Arkansas community will be shared. Ms. Gentry will also focus on what is currently happening and how participants can become involved in the organization’s future. After the presentation there will be a campus tour of the spaces and buildings. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking. Activity Level: 2-3
